Rode DSLR Mics with Built-In Recorder

Rode has a pair of new mics specifically built for the DSLR market, each with a built in microSD recorder.

The VideoMicHD is a cardioid shotgun with 3 different recording options: 2 channel mono, 2 channel mono with one channel attenuated 20db for clipping problems and a balanced audio signal.  It also has a mini-plug input.

The VideoMicPro doesn't seem to be very pro at all but still is able to record.

But doesn't this give you all the disadvantages of dual system sound with none of the advantages?  And how do you adjust levels when you're recording without shaking the camera?  In fact, I don't see an level control anywhere?  I just don't get it...
