I'll cut to the chase: Basically 6db of gain amplifies a signal twice as much or equal to doubling the ISO. So, if you figure the basic ISO of your Canon 5D is 100 then when you set the gain to 204800 ISO you're basically putting in +48db of gain. Yikes!
There is also an interesting test with the 7D showing that ISO noise in these cameras may not be linear and why.
