Next month ARRI will start shipping the ALEXA M which consists of a separate camera head and body connected with a fiber optic cable.
The M was designed for special applications work such as 3D, helicopter ball mounts and for fitting into tight spaces. Think dashboard cam.
The front end offers multiple mounting points and weighs 3 kg (about 6.6 pounds). There is also a "D" bracket that will allow the two parts to be united into a single unit. At $100,290 it's not everyone's ALEXA...
